The History of Shuanglin Temple
Located in the east of Beijing, Shuanglin Temple is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. The temple was first built in 651 AD by Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty and was named after his consort, Princess Shuanglin. Empress Wu Zetian of Tang later renamed the temple to Shuanglin Temple in 712 AD. The temple has been rebuilt and renovated many times over the centuries and now consists of three main structures - the Main Hall, the East Hall and the West Hall. The Main Hall is a large, ornate building with a gilded roof and walls covered with elaborately carved screens.
